The VCH's work cannot continue without adequate funding, which currently comes from:
- The Oxfordshire VCH Trust, established in 1998 to raise funds towards completion of the Oxfordshire series
- Oxfordshire County Council, which has supported the Oxfordshire VCH since 1965, and currently funds 2.34fte posts as part of its Heritage Services
- Oxford University, which provides accommodation in the Bodleian Library and a small discretionary grant
.
From April 2011, County Council funding for the Oxfordshire VCH will be drastically reduced because of pressure on local government finance. Fundraising by the VCH Oxfordshire Trust has never been more important if we are to fulfil our aim of completing the VCH's coverage of Oxfordshire.
Two thirds of the county are already completed, and plans to 2011 will see substantial progress on Henley, the Chilterns, and west Oxfordshire. The VCH Oxfordshire Trust is fundraising for both current and future work.

From 2005-9 the VCH also received Heritage Lottery funding for the its separate England's Past for Everyone projects.
