Cambridgeshire
Status: Complete, 10 volumes produced
Work on Cambridgeshire began in the early twentieth century but nothing was published. It was revived in the interwar period when it was taken over by the University of London, and two volumes were published, one in 1938 and the other after the war. Work then resumed in the early 1950s with the intention of covering local topography. The county was among the first to benefit from the enlargement of the range of subjects, and the second volume published in the revived series, on the city of Cambridge (1959) contained the first analytical history of the place. It was completed in ten volumes in 1989.
