VCH Cornwall Bridge Day 2013
The annual Victoria County History of Cornwall Sir Richard Trant Bridge Day took place on a fine February Tuesday this year. Seventy-six keen bridge players arrived in good time at the lovely Nare Hotel, overlooking the sea at Veryan-in-Roseland, near Truro, ready to play.
A truly magnificent collection of prizes for the players and for the raffle (including a magnum of champagne) was supplied, most generously, by our former vice-chairman, Piers Thompson, and by Lady Trant. Players were refreshed at lunchtime by an excellent lunch, supplied by the hotel, and the day finished with tea and biscuits in the afternoon. Our grateful thanks go to Toby Ashworth of the Nare for his great kindness and generosity in providing the food and accommodation and to St Austell brewery for the wine.
Sir Richard was so committed to our aim of ‘telling the story of Cornwall’ and we are delighted that the money raised will go towards the development of our valuable research in achieving this aim.
Don’t forget the next Bridge Day in 2014. If you’re on my mailing list you’ll get an invitation as this year; if you’re not, please email me at ElnHndrsn@aol.com and I’ll put you on. Tables sell out quickly and we had disappointed people on our waiting list this year, so please remember to book early if you want to come!
