The Prince leaves the new museum's welcome building at Taunton Castle

His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex returned to Taunton to officially open the Museum of Somerset in Taunton Castle on Monday 15 October 2012.

He toured the museum and met volunteers, contractors and staff who worked on the project, members of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society (SAHNS) and schoolchildren. He was given books on Somerset and unveiled a brightly coloured plaque to mark the occasion.

Despite the rain people gathered in Castle Green to see the prince.

His Royal Highness then cut a ribbon on the new Glass Bridge linking Goodland Gardens to the newly constructed Castle Green public space. Pupils from Taunton Preparatory School were the first on the new bridge marking the completion of work to enhance Castle Green as part of improvements to Taunton town centre and especially the castle area.
