VCH Wiltshire helps Who Do You Think You Are?
13 February, 2013 (All day)
Dr Alex Craven, Assistant County Editor of VCH Wiltshire, was very pleased to be able to help Who Do You Think Your Are? with some of their research this week. Alex spent a day working through primary sources for the BBC television programme, although he is not allowed to reveal what he worked on, and the celebrity in question remains a secret.
'We're always happy to help anybody who has an enquiry about the history of Wiltshire. It was a nice challenge, trying to track down any trace of the family in question in such a short time,' he said. 'We're used to writing the history of places, but we don't often have the chance to focus in detail on the lives of an individual, so this was great fun.'
Alex is currently putting the finishing touches to his history of Horningsham, near Warminster, which will be published next year in VCH Wiltshire XIX: Longleat and the Deverills. Besides his work for VCH Wiltshire, Alex also researches and publishes on the political and cultural history of 17th-century England.
'Now I just hope it gets onto the telly!', he joked.
