Cumbria County History Trust Jubilee Digests

VCH Cornwall will be making an appearance at two special, high-profile events this year – and making a splash with our Jubilee celebrations! For the first time we will be taking a stand at the du Maurier Festival in Fowey from 10-14 May. Featuring two of the author’s historical novels we will show how the events she describes relate to actual documents of the period.

From 7-9 June we will be at the Royal Cornwall Show in Wadebridge and our theme here is From Red Book to e-Book, charting our progress from Volume I to our forthcoming e-book. At both events we will have a colourful display celebrating the Jubilee in the light of the rededication of all future volumes to Queen Elizabeth.

VCH Herefordshire will have a stand at the Herefordshire Diamond Day event in Hereford on  11 July. The Trust is also going to put on a small exhibition in the entrance to Hereford Museum, Library and art Gallery from 11-25 September. This will be about the earlier historians of Herefordshire, the origins of the VCH in Herefordshire and its current activities

VCH Leicestershire The city of Leicester was very proud to have been chosen as the first place to be visited by HM the Queen on her diamond jubilee tour of the UK. Predicted soon to become the UK’s first city where no single ethnic group will form a majority, Leicester has probably changed more than any other town or city during the Queen’s reign, making it an appropriate place to start the tour. The city’s rich cultural diversity was reflected in the range of displays staged for the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cambridge on 8 March, and in the act of worship in the city’s cathedral, which included contributions from the other major faith groups within the city. The royal party were escorted throughout their visit by Jennifer, Lady Gretton, Lord Lieutenant of the county, who is also the president of Leicestershire VCH Trust.
