The Duke of Devonshire is new President of the Derbyshire Trust

The Duke of Devonshire is the new president of the Derbyshire Victoria County History Trust. The Duke accepted the presidency at the Trust’s June AGM, at County Hall, Matlock. The Duke takes over from professor David Hey.

The Duke said that he was very much looking forward to becoming involved with VCH.

The AGM also saw Robert Gent retiring as our Hon. Secretary.  Robert's service were marked by a presentation to him by new Secretary Dudley Fowkes.

The AGM ended with a talk on Sudbury Hall by Cherry Ann Knott.

Cherry Ann Knott is the acknowledged expert on Sudbury Hall. She was the National Trust’s property manager there for nearly five years from 1979. Her research into the Hall and George Vernon – the man who built it – has recently culminated in the publication of an 800 page book; George Vernon 1636-1702 ‘Who built this house’: Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire.
