Successful launch of Derbyshire VCH Volume III and Marc Fitch lecture

Approaching 150 people attended our launch of Derbyshire VCH Volume III at Heritage High School, Clowne, The volume covers Bolsover and adjoining parishes – Barlborough, Clowne, Elmton, Creswell, Whitwell and Bolsover itself. It is the first volume published in Derbyshire since 1907.

Our launch celebrations also included a Marc Fitch Lecture by Professor David Hey entitled 'The Origins and Spread of Derbyshire Surnames'.

Guests included the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, the Chairman of Bolsover District Council, the Leader of Derbyshire County Council and the Leader of Bolsover District Council. We were also pleased that friends from the academic community joined us, including Professor Miles Taylor, who is Director of the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London and Dr Richard Gaunt from the University of Nottingham who chaired the event. Many members, supporters and representatives of local and family history organisations also attended.

Our thanks to everyone who helped make the day a great succees and to Heritage High School, Clowne.
