Masonic records move to Tyne and Wear Archives

The Queen Street masonic hall in Sunderland's east end is a Grade 1 listed building, and the oldest such in the world to have been in continuous use by masons. The earliest records of Phoenix Lodge, some from the 1750s, pre-date the hall (built 1785). Durham VCH helped negotiate the transfer of the collection to Tyne and Wear Archives. After conservation and listing, the documents are now available to be consulted by the public.
