About VCH Hampshire

The project is run by a steering group which represents: Hampshire County Council, University of Winchester, Hampshire Archives and Local Studies, Hampshire Field Club, Hampshire Archive Trust, University of Portsmouth and VCH Central Office in the University of London. The Hampshire project is a first in two ways: the first to revise existing Red Books and the first to try to use volunteers alongside professional historians to research and to write Red Book entries.

The project is currently focusing on Basingstoke and its surrounding area. VCH Hampshire need volunteers to get involved with this project. You don’t need to be a historian to volunteer! The volunteer leader, Dr Jean Morrin (jean.morrin@winchester.ac.uk), will provide training in Winchester and Basingstoke.
