Launch of VCH Short: Bosbury, Herefordshire

Charles Watkins presents a copy of Bosbury to Rhys Griffiths

On 24th October 2016, VCH Herefordshire held a launch event to celebrate the launch of their second VCH Short, Bosbury. The Chair of the Herefordshire VCH Trust Professor Charles Watkins welcomed over 50 guests to Bosbury parish hall and complimented the residents of the parish on living in a scholarly village on which the Revd Samuel Bentley had written a history in 1881 with an expanded version in 1891. Charles also introduced Dr James Bowen who is to start in January as the contributing editor for Colwall which is the next Herefordshire parish to be researched. Dr Adam Chapman, editor and training co-ordinator in the VCH Central Office gave a brief history of the national VCH project while Janet Cooper, former county Chairman, thanked her fellow authors, Jane Adams, Jonathan Comber, Sylvia Pinches and David Whitehead.

The guests were able to browse an exhibition of maps, ancient documents and photographs put together by Barry Sharples, a parish resident who has created a website which contains a wealth of material on the history of the parish. Copies of the book were presented to Barry and Sue Sharples and Rhys Griffiths, Senior Archivist for Herefordshire Archives, in recognition of their help.

Copies of the book can be obtained from the Treasurer of the Herefordshire Trust, Jonathan Comber, for £12 by sending a cheque payable to the Herefordshire VCH Trust to Jonathan at 49 Old Hollow, Malvern, WR14 4NP.
