A photograph of Colwall church and Church Ale House

Work is in hand on the history of education, non-conformist chapels, the spa water industry and many other aspects of Colwall's history, medieval and modern.

The Wills Group have transcribed the pre-1700 probate documents of this large parish. Other volunteers are abstracting information from the parish registers and the census enumerators books.

If you would like to become involved with this research, please contact Dr James Bowen.

Colwall Church Ale House is a timber-framed building of the early 16th century. By the mid-1600s it was being used as an almshouse or, more exactly, a parish poor house. It is now, once again, used for village meetings.
