We are proud that Leicestershire has run one of the largest and most active VCH volunteer programmes, and has provided training in historical and archaeological research methods to many volunteers, especially through our Charnwood Roots project, which has been investigating the history of 35 towns, villages and hamlets in the Charnwood Forest area of Leicestershire with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund. The research phase of that project came to an end in July 2017.

We currently have vacancies for volunteers to help us to research the history of Ibstock, but our ability to support volunteers in other areas is constrained by a lack of funds.

We would be pleased to hear from anyone with experience in the following areas, who would be interested in volunteering their time to help this project:

  • Public Relations
  • Marketing
  • Fundraising
  • IT (website design and management)

We appreciate no one’s time is open-ended, and we would be happy to agree with you the number of hours you feel you would be able to contribute. If this appeals, or if you would like to know more, please contact us by email to leicsvch@le.ac.uk or write to Leicestershire VCH Trust, 5 Salisbury Road, Leicester, LE1 7QR.

The Leicestershire VCH project is funded by Leicestershire Victoria County History Trust, a registered charity which works hard to secure donations to enable work on this important local history project to continue. The Trust has a Friends group and a 200 Club to raise money for this project, and also has a legacy scheme.
