Donation from the Westminster History Club

Catherine Longworth, Prof David Carpenter, Elizabeth Williamson and Judith Warne

The Westminster History Club has made a generous donation of £4,000 towards VCH research, raised through the Club’s many successful talks in Westminster City Hall. The final talk in the current series entitled Henry III’s Vision for Westminster Abbey: "Creating the most magnificent church in Christendom" was given by Prof David Carpenter in February 2017 to a packed audience.  The History Club would like to extend their thanks to all those who have attended an event and assure them that their money is now helping to further important work into the history of Westminster.

The VCH has two Westminster ‘Shorts’ in production covering medieval Knightsbridge and the parish of St Clement Danes from 1660 to 1900, which we hope will both be launched later in 2017. The Westminster History Club provided much of the funding towards research for the latter volume and it could not have been assembled without the Club’s help. We are currently seeking funding to continue research on the parish of St George Hanover Square.
