Timberscombe ford with old mill and Providence chapel

Edmund Rack described Timberscombe in the 1780s as encompassed by lofty hills well-furnished with hanging woods and with picturesque glens winding between them. As the village is tucked away from the main valley the parish still looks much as Rack saw it. He omitted to mention the snowdrops for which the upper reaches of the Avill are now renowned.
