Marc Fitch Lecture Series

For many years the Marc Fitch Fund has generously supported an annual lecture held here at the Institute of Historical Research. Past speakers have included Linda Colley, Roy Strong, Michael Wood, Simon Thurley and David Starkey. Since 2012 the lecture series has toured the counties with the aim of three lectures per year. So far Tristram Hunt has spoken in Staffordshire, Christopher Dyer in Northamptonshire and David Hey in Derbyshire.  A little more about Marc Fitch can be found here.

The Institute of Historical Research, which has managed the VCH project since 1933, devoted the 2012 Marc Fitch lecture to the Diamond Jubilee celebration. The lecture was given by Dr David Starkey and was entitled ‘“Head of Our Morality”: why the modern British monarchy matters’. The lecture is now available as a podcast. To listen click here.
