Map showing the place of origin of men who carried away a whale stranded at Walton in 1326
Map showing the place of origin of men named as having carried away a great fish called ‘cete’ (i.e. a whale) found on the Dean and Chapter of St Paul’s manor of Walton in 1326.
It is apparent that some of the men are likely to have come by sea, for all of the parishes have a coastline either onto the open sea or onto Hamford Water. Perhaps that is also how word of the stranded whale spread.
