Marshwood, Carhampton

Marshwood’s transition from park and hunting grounds to a large and prosperous farm probably indicates changing priorities for its owners the Luttrells, especially as they had a more convenient park at Dunster, which they enlarged substantially in the 18th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries Marshwood became a valuable subsidiary house and dairy and by the 18th century it was a high rental tenant farm.
