Devonshire House, Piccadilly, London

Although the Cavendishes divided their time between Derbyshire and London, they occupied rented houses until the 18th century, when the 2nd duke built of Devonshire House in 1734-7 on the site of Berkeley House to designs by William Kent. The photograph shows the grand interior, embellished in the early 19th century by the 6th duke, and the house was demolished in the 1920s.
