Fires and Fire Engines in Minehead and Dunster

Old Fire Station, Dunster

Minehead suffered greatly from fires, mostly caused by reckless behaviour. The parish community maintained a fire engine and in the 1890s both Minehead and Dunster established local fire brigades.
